Finding a place to work with desk space, Wi-Fi, (and maybe even some free coffee) is critical to get work done and be productive, even while living the Pura Vida lifestyle.
This list of workspaces and locations will give you a sense of what is available across the country of Costa Rica in some of its main coworking hubs.
In the Shade Hotel and Coworking — Tamarindo
In the Shade in Tamarindo is a boutique hotel offering a chic, minimalist coworking space with top-notch amenities. Gracias Coffee & Cowork — San José
Gracias Coffee and Cowork is an expansive and modern coworking space that has the full gamut of open spaces, meeting rooms with screens and televisions, and workshops. There is parking, air conditioning, high-speed Internet, and security on-site. Options available are a one-day pass for $20, a five-day pass for $50, and frecuente month-long passes for $150. Locoworking — Sámara
Four hours from the San José airport and two hours from Liberia is Samara, a Pacific-facing beach town that is tucked away from some of the more well-known urban hubs in Costa Rica. Locoworking offers both hot desks and dedicated desks as well as package tours that bundle coworking passes with adventure, yoga, and/or surfing. You can book the hot desks for an hour, a day, a week or a month. A printer, coffee, tea, a kitchen, and private lockers are available. What you don’t see at every coworking space though, which is uniquely great about Locoworking is the tropical garden on-site and the three-minute walk to the beach once you walk out the door.
Puerto and Co — Puerto Viejo
In Caribbean-facing Puerto Viejo, you can find the aptly named Puerto and Co, which has a healthy vegetarian focus in its branding and outlook on life. There are rates offered for any number of hours, days, weeks, and months — both hourly passes for high-speed Internet only as well as longer memberships that include anytime access (8 AM to 8 PM) and discounts on items. Printing is available with a partner, across the street. With a vegan café on-site, this coworking space affords the remote worker the ability to enjoy Puerto Viejo and live a healthy lifestyle at the same time, with yoga and surfing available in the nearby Caribbean Sea.
Beeworking — San José
Beeworking offers you to the opportunity to trabajar en un gran colmena or — "work in a big beehive". This fun tagline reflects the funky interior design with honeycomb hexagons decking out the common spaces.
This space is located in a more urban environment in San José, with professional offices available as well as talks about business and entrepreneurship conducted periodically. Meeting rooms are available for a fee — check the website which provides prices in colóns. Open space is available by the hour and by the month.
Venture X Costa Rica — San José
A beautiful, expansive open space and glass-walled offices are the signature look of Venture X Costa Rica, where the slogan is “The Future Works Here”. There is a wide variety of options: hotdesks, virtual office addresses, private meeting rooms, and private offices. Notably, this coworking location is only a 5-minute drive from SJO airport, located within nearby City Mall Alajuela. Amenities, shopping, and urban conveniences are all nearby, as is ample parking with thousands of parking spots available. A comfortable choice in the heart of San José airport/Alajuela neighborhood.
Selina Coworking
Selina is a hostelling, hospitality, tourism, and coworking brand that operates many locations throughout Costa Rica, including in Jaco, La Fortuna, Manuel Antonio, Monteverde, Nosara, Puerto Viejo, Santa Teresa, Tamarindo, and San Jose. Check out their locations if you are looking to go to a company with a larger footprint, possibly if you are changing cities but want to keep your surroundings familiar by using the same coworking brand in multiple locations.
Colabora — San José
Colabora is a coworking space that offers many of the basic amenities if you are looking for a place in the Empalme/Los Yoses/Francisco Peralta neighborhoods. The space focuses on the various tiers of office you might need: meeting rooms, private offices, hot desks, board rooms, and executive offices.
Impact Hub San José
Impact Hub is part of a larger organization that provides entrepreneurship business and training services, consulting, and skills workshops. There are rooms with audiovisual equipment, hammocks, and other amenities. This is in an out-of-the-way part of the Costa Rican capital, so you can add it to the list of San José-based locations you can check out depending on what part of the city you are staying in. In this case, Impact Hub is in the northeastern part of the central business district.
