🗽🇺🇸 NYC Nomad Village Pop-Up is Tomorrow
This is the Remotely Serious Newsletter — NYC Nomad Village Pop-Up Event Edition
It’s the remote work newsletter from Remotely Serious, written by Curtis Duggan.
I used to live in New York City until the pandemic ejected me from Brooklyn in March 2020.
It's an amazing city, one that could easily add "digital nomad hub" to the many, many intersecting identities it already claims in music, finance, comedy, theater, media, fashion, business, tourism, and much, much more.
Frankly, we don't talk about the United States much in this newsletter because the USA (like Canada, the UK, China, Japan, India, and other top-10 economic powers) is not rushing to compete for digital nomads from abroad to the same extent that dozens of other next-50 economies are.
The still-reigning global superpower continues to put very tough restrictions on who can work within its borders.
As we have mentioned several times before, we never recommend that foreign nationals enter the United States and casually work as a digital nomad, as one might do in other countries that formally or informally condone remote work tourism.
When I lived there, I needed a visa, a process that was expensive, difficult, and time-consuming.
So, yeah. The United States doesn't get as much attention from us.
But like very few other analogous countries (Brazil and possibly the EU Schengen area, as a whole), what the US does have is a vast population—millions of citizens and residents who can move and relocate within the 50 states and Puerto Rico.
So just because American cities don't appear on the remote work radar as international hubs, it doesn't mean there aren't still millions of Americans finding new remote work lives for themselves within the US.
And American cities, towns, and regions (like Tulsa, West Virginia and more) will compete for part-time or full-time remote work residents — sometimes with direct financial incentives.
New York City doesn't need any help with branding and name recognition. NYC is not paying anyone to move there. In fact, people pony up more than usual for the chance to live there.
The brand speaks for itself.
That's why I'm super excited that Mita Carriman of Adventurely is running NYC Nomad Village Pop-Up for two days next week in Sunset Park in partnership with Freelancers Hub and Freelancers Union.
The conversation around remote work is coming to one of the world's best neighborhoods: Sunset Park, Brooklyn, NYC.
As part of a media partnership, we are asking for a moment of your time to consider NYC Nomad Village and the topics of the pop-up event.
I've seen the analytics on my own newsletter. I know most of you don't live in New York.
So I'm just going to suggest one thing.

We're dedicating this entire week's edition to promoting this event — an event which is also brought to you by our ongoing partners in sponsorship, Insured Nomads.
I'm specifically excited about how Mita curates content about impacts on local populations—where the side effects of remote work tourism are not necessarily always sustainable or universally loved by locals.
It will be a great event!
Next week, we'll be back with the news.
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all who celebrated last weekend.
